Debate is raging over the efficacy or otherwise of treatments such as homeopathy, osteopathy and acupuncture. While the professionals argue, the general public are increasingly choosing to believe. Mandy Murphy asks if it’s all in the mind, or whether there’s more to complementary and alternativemedicine.So it continues. Less than 24 hours after Prince Charles sung the praises of Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAMs) and Integrated Health at this year’s World Health Assembly, Professor Michael Baum et al. sent an open letter to the Times urging NHS trusts nationwide to review their practices and not be swayed by a ‘concerted campaign to promote complementary and alternative medicine as a component of healthcare provision’.
